So What’s Happening?
In 2015, BT announced that they will be switching off the PSTN and ISDN networks by January 2027, marking the biggest change in the telecoms industry for over 30 years, but what does this mean for you?
The Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) is ageing and will reach the end of life in January 2027. From this date traditional telephony, including fixed lines and services in the Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) will be switched off and withdrawn from service.
With traditional copper services being phased out traditional phone and internet services will be unavailable and replaced by a new range of products. Openreach are working hard to upgrade existing infrastructure to support high speed fibre optic broadband to allow the rollout of new IP based services.
What does this mean for me?
Simply put your standard analogue phones will no longer work from the switch-off date.
Your existing analogue services will need to be replaced by a new IP based system, there are lots of new products and solutions available, but the most common change will be from PSTN phone lines to VoIP based services.
In addition, from September 2023 traditional services will no longer be available to order in certain areas.
So, What Do I Do?
The good news is there is plenty of time to get ready for this and be prepared, if you are an existing Riviera Networks customer then we are already evaluating your services and will be in touch to discuss once the relevant infrastructure is available in your area.
If you are not a Riviera Networks customer then get in touch for a free evaluation of you current services and a discussion on how and when we should make the change.
Don’t Panic – and Don’t Believe the Hype!
You don’t need to make any changes right away, and you won’t lose any services without being given plenty of notice. Most telesales companies touting VOIP solutions are wrong – these types of solutions are rarely “plug-and-go”.
Thankfully, Riviera Networks are already rolling out bespoke and innovative solutions to keep your business connected.
